The New York Yankees
All my life I have been an avid baseball fan. Since before I can remember I have loved Yankee's baseball with a fiery passion. I can still picture myself around this time ten years ago when Chalie Hayes caught the final out in the World Series for the Yankees victory. To this day I can still remember sitting on my couch with my dad screaming like a 12-year-old school girl at a Justin Timberlake concert. It was one of the most emotional feelings I have ever felt in my life. The one picture that clearly stands out in my mind was when Wade Boggs climbed onto the back of a police horse and pointed to the crowd in celebration. After the '96 World Series the Yankees went on to win three more championships in years 1998, 1999, and 2000. If you were to ask me who my favorite player on the Yankees is I would have to say Derek Jeter. As cliché as it sounds he is my favorite player for one reason, he has more heart then I have ever seen from a baseball player. One of my favorite moments was when Jeter dove into the stands after catching a fly ball against the Boston Red Sox, which helped the Yankees in winning the game. As long as he wears a Yankee uniform he will be my favorite player in baseball.
The New York Jets
Another one of my interests are the New York Jets. I am a huge Jets fan and I love everything that has to do with Jets football. I have bled green and white since I have been able to throw a football. My dad was a huge influence in my decision to be a Jet fan, but in the long run where I live also played a emormous role. It takes a lot of heart to be a Jets fan, because its not easy watching my team lose a very large majority of the time. As of now I would have to say my favorite player on the Jets would have to be Jonathan Vilma, because he hustles more than any other player on the field. In his sophmore year with the Jets, he broke the single season tackles record with 124. Even though he is undersized for his position he still manages to be one of the best middle linebackers in the NFL with only three years of experience.
Wrestling: Dan Gable
While I love Derek Jeter and Jonathan Vilma, neither of them hold a candle to Dan Gable. For those of you who don't know who Dan Gable is allow me to educate you. Dan Gable wrestled for Iowa State and had an unbelievable record of 118-1, losing his only match in the NCAA finals his senior year. He set NCAA records in winning and pin streaks. In the 1972 Olympics Gable won a gold medal without being scored upon in the tournament. As if that wasn't enough he went on to be the greatest wrestling coach of all time, leading Iowa to 15 national championships in 21 years and a combined record of 355-21-5 with seven of the 21 seasons being perfect. He was also the head coach for the 1980, 1984, and 2000 US Olympic Wrestling teams. If there was someone more famous then Gable that I would have to equate him to, it would Michael Jordan. Dan Gable is the Michael Jordan of wrestling. My senior year of wrestling I was able to me Gable in the flesh and was fortunate enough to have him sign my wrestling shoes. Dan Gable is one of my greatest heros of all time.
