1. Red Eyed Mike is the spirit that guards the entrance of the tunnel. If you knock on the railroad ties above the entrance three times, you will hear a loud horn blast emanate from within the tunnel. This tunnel goes miles into the ground, it was used for old sewer tunneling a long time ago. It goes down pretty far, hence the name "Gates Of Hell". After the tunnels were abandoned, satinistic rituals took place there, and there are stories of secret room lined with battle axs on the doors. Out of all the places Weird NJ can offer, I put the Gates of Hell as the scariest. Just entering the tunnel is the biggest fear of all. I have never gone there, but I still find it fascinating and my favorite place of all.
