I am looking to start my career as a Secondary Math Teacher. It is my goal to teach the love of learning and mathematics. I find math exciting and I believe that my enjoyment of the subject will be contagious. This is exhibited in my solutions submitted to Math Horizons while I was studying at St. Bonaventure University. I received an undergraduate degree there where I studied Liberal Arts, majored in Mathematics, minored in Philosophy and had a three course sequence Computer Science (this involved programming in Java and SQL). I have held a few jobs in the private sector with my last job being the Cellar Master for Thousand Islands Winery. I had many real world experiences, which will add to my ability to relate math topics to real world situations. At Ithaca College, I took a number of courses that broadened my horizons as a math teacher. One course was on integrating technology into the classroom, which involved creating documents that integrated Power Point, Excel, Web design, and Photoshop. In the schools, I was able to experience a diverse group of students and was also able to work with students with special needs. We also had a cumulative project based in Action Research, which is an examination of pedagogy in order to improve one's techniques. This is a useful tool in measuring the effectiveness of my teaching style. |
