I have always wanted to study abroad. At the end of my freshman year, I reviewed my options and decided to study at the Ithaca College London Center . The London Center provides a way for Ithaca College students to study in London, taking courses with British professors, but with Ithaca College Students. It is a very easy way to study abroad because it is a program sponsored by the college.

I was particularly interested in the London Center because much of the courses centered around the arts. As a health science major, I had not been able to take many arts classes and I looked forward to broadening my cultural horizens.

I opted to begin the program early and visit the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with several other Ithaca College students.

At the festival, I saw several talented performers and enjoyed the beautiful city of Edinburgh. The Fringe Festival was a fantastic way to start my semester abroad.

After Edinburg, I arrived in London and met up with the rest of the Ithaca College students. We quickly needed to find a flat before classes started. I and three other friends decided to live together and found a beautiful little flat right off the Edware Road tube stop, near the center of London.

vandaA view of the museum from the street. I took several courses which were very interesting and helped educate me on the culture and history of England. These included: British Art and Architecture, British Media and Society, and Theatre and the French Revolution. British Art and Architecture was my favorite course because we were able to actually see much of the art and architecture which we were studying. One of my favorite trips was to the Victoria and Albert museum because it had so much artwork from the Tudor time period, one of my favorite parts of history.

While in England, I traveled to Stratford, the birthplace of William Shakespeare and Bath, a city which inspired much of Jane Austin's novels. I also traveled to other countries while I was in London, such as Dublin, Ireland, Paris, France, and Malia, Greece. The street view of the home where Shakespeare was born.

Two of my friends and I hanging out in London. I truely loved my semester abroad and would not have changed the experience for the world. I gained independence and learned a little of what it is like to live in "the real world." I just wish I could have had more time to study abroad again!
