What's with the Giraffe?!?

Giraffe

The Ithaca College community service has adopted the giraffe as its mascot and encourages you to STICK YOUR NECK OUT for service. Watch campus for sightings of the giraffe to learn about community service opportunities. After reading these facts, you will see why it is clear that the giraffe is our epitome of a great volunteer:

ALL GREAT VOLUNTEERS HAVE BIG HEARTS.

The giraffe's heart is huge; it weighs 25 pounds, is 2 feet long, and has walls up to 3 inches thick.

ALL GREAT VOLUNTEERS LEAVE BIG SHOES TO FILL.

Giraffes' footprints are 12 inches in length and 9 inches wide.

ALL GREAT VOLUNTEERS ARE EFFICIENT AT THEIR WORK.

Giraffes are fast and can reach speeds of up to 35 miles per hour.

ALL GREAT VOLUNTEERS CELEBRATE DIVERSITY.

At a given moment, a giraffe may be in a herd composed of males, females, young, old, and both sexes. There is no one true herd leader.

ALL GREAT VOLUNTEERS ARE DEDICATED AND WORK HARD.

Giraffes are rarely down; they even sleep and give birth standing up.

ALL GREAT VOLUNTEERS LOOK BEYOND THE TREES.

The giraffe is the world's tallest animal.
