Well maybe it is just the time of year
or maybe it's the time of man.
Well, I don't know who I am,
but you know, life is for learning.

Becky Goodling's thoughts on life and being happy with it.

My philosophy...

“Now I've been smiling lately, thinking about the good things to come, and I believe it could be, something good has begun.” - Cat Stevens

The average person my age will probably live to be about 100 years old. One-hundred years seems like a long time to kids when they're little. And then before they know it, they're in high school. And then suddenly, you're me, and you're thinking, "Hey, I'm 19. How'd that happen?" You can't wait to be 21. And then, out of nowhere, it's your 35th birthday and you're saying, "Where'd the rest of my life go?"

“The Dance of Youth” Pablo Picasso

Now, by no means do I mean this to sound depressing. I'm just offering it forth as something to think about. Here are some basic rules of life, as borrowed from a good friend of mine and modified by yours truly.

1. DON'T TAKE LIFE FOR GRANTED.
2. WORK HARD, PARTY HARD.
3. BE HAPPY.
4. DON'T BE STUPID.
5. A = A
6. DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO.
7. DON'T BE AFRAID TO LOVE.

In my experience, I've found these rules to be pretty easy to follow. Everyone slips up now and then and falls into feeling sorry for themselves or forgetting how lucky they are to have the life they have. I know I do. It's hard to be a daughter/son, sister/brother, friend, roommate, student, responsible citizen, hard-worker, lover and human being all at the same time, and still find time for yourself. And everyone gets hurt sometimes, but you have to be able to love and trust. With love and trust in your life - love of your family, your friends, whoever - you know you'll never be alone.

Yourself...

“Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.” - The Grateful Dead

Everyone has something special to offer. And because of that, everyone has something to learn from someone else. Look around - at your friends, at your family, at the people you run into on the street - and think about what each of those people could teach you. I'll be the first to admit, it's hard to look at each situation and each person critically, without an prejudegments about them, and to open your mind and think, "What can this person show me about myself?" Sometimes you'll see in others what you dislike about yourself and you'll be able to change, and sometimes you'll see qualities in others of which you wish you had more.

It's for these reasons that you can't ever think you're better than anyone else. Each person is unique to their experiences. What is monumental to one person may be ridiculous to another, but it goes both ways. You always have something to learn.

Just as a disclaimer, I'm no philosophical genius, I'm just a 19-year old girl who's been thinking a lot about life lately and wants to put her thoughts into words, and this website, my first website, gives me the opportunity to do so.
