I was born on September 7, 1988 in Buffalo Childrens Hospital in
Buffalo, NY to Janet and Paul Smolinski. I have lived my entire life in
Blasdell, a small suburb just a few miles south of Buffalo. In 1991 my
tiwn sisters, Emily and Alison were born. At the age of four I attended
Our Mother of Good Counsel Pre-Kindergarten school in Blasdell. My
parents were eager to start my education early and the only option was
Catholic school. The next year I was enrolled at Blasdell Elementary
School kindergarten in the Frontier Central School District of Hamburg,
NY. It was the same district my mother attended when she was growing up
in my neighborhood. Also at the age of five I began playing soccer for
the Young America Soccer Club, a soccer league that spans most of
Western New York. I would continue playing soccer at Young America for
the next twelve years until I became too old for the age divisions. In
1999 my family took a vacation to visit our family and friends in
Florida and to visit Walt Disney World. It was a truly amazing
experience to me and was the first time I had been on a plane. The next
year I entered the sixth grade at Frontier Central Middle School. Three
years later in the ninth grade I started Frontier Central High School.
It was then that I became heavily involved in activites and community
service. By my junior year I had decided that I wanted to pursue a
career in filmmaking and I applied to Ithaca College in the fall of my
senior year. I was accepted as a history major and I am now hoping to
finish in the field of cinema production.
I enjoy doing many different things. My main hobby is computers and technology.
I like to read up on the latest headlines in the tech world as well as
exploring the devices I own. I will most likely build my next desktop
computer from the ground up by buying all the parts and assembling them
myself. I also like to surf the internet and learn about things that
interest me. I like to read about history, especially about the 20th
century and the Middle Ages. I also enjoy playing video games. Since I
was nine I have always been up to date with the latest games and
systems. My favorite console game is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64 and my favorite computer game is Myst,
a realistic adventure game from the mid-90's. I also like to watch and
play some sports including street hockey and soccer. Since I am from
the Buffalo area, my favorite teams are the Buffalo Bills of the NFL and the Buffalo Sabres of the NHL. My favorite books are The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien and A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess. However my greatest passion is in film. I especially love classic and foreign films like 81/2 but I also enjoy newer, more mainstream, films such as The Matrix.
My goal right now is to do well in school here at Ithaca. I will keep
my grades up so that I can continue to attain scholarships to finance
my education. I hope to transfer into the Park School of Communications
because it is the reason I came to Ithaca. I intend to graduate in 2010
with the rest of my class. After that I may enlist in the United States
Army for a few years to get some adventure before I move on to a career
in filmmaking.
